Libby Kids' Fishing Pond

    The recent addition of the Libby Fish Pond is an example of the generosity and community spirit that joins up for our local kids. The 1.87-acre pond is located southwest of the motocross park and west of Libby Creek diversion channel which will feed the 15-foot deep pond. Overflow will spill back into Libby Creek. The pond is situated in a wooded area to enhance fishing and wildlife watching.

Kootenai Falls & Swinging Bridge

    The falls is a "must see" on bucket lists for Kootenai Country, Montana!  It’s a great family outing to check out the falls and cross the timber and cable swinging bridge which spans the river. There are picnic areas and restrooms available. For the hearty hikers, the 218 trail continues north up steep cliffs, and bring your binoculars as bighorn sheep and possibly a peregrine falcon and/or eagles can be spotted.

Thompson Chain of Lakes

In the early 1800’s, a young Scotsman navigated using a sextant — a primitive telescope, as well as  astronomy and a crude compass. Other routes, canoe travel and portages were also used and all pathways were marked and recorded in a field book by the Scotsman. His first reference to these lakes were recorded in an 1811 journal. This young man would eventually be known as one of the greatest cartographers, navigators, and explorers in human history. His name was David Thompson, and the David Thompson Chain of Lakes is also named after this amazing man.

Lake Koocanusa & Marina

Koocanusa Reservoir begins approximately 17-miles northeast of Libby in Kootenai Country, Montana.  Libby Dam backs the Kootenai River to form Lake Koocanusa which extends 90-miles upstream making it the seventh largest reservoir in the United States. About 42-miles of this water body are in British Columbia.  Actually, the name derives from the combination of the Kootenai River, Canada, and the U.S.A.

Heritage Museum

The fact that there is even a museum in Libby speaks volumes for the character and generosity of the good people of our area. June 3, 1978, the Heritage Museum officially opened its doors.  It was the culmination of an idea put forth by a small group of citizens in 1973, looking to house the historical collection of Roy Porter. Take a trip into Libby’s History and Kootenai River Country’s unique museum and we are sure you will not be disappointed!

Riverfront Park & Veteran's Memorial

This is a park built on the “Salt of the Earth” folks who inhabit these unforgiving mountains. The logs were harvested in the forest surrounding Libby. Loggers fell, skidded and milled these timbers for the pavilion named after a late beloved mayor, Fred Brown. On a portion of this 37-acre park, local sculptures worked a bronze and copper Veteran’s Memorial Statue of a World War Two combat soldier helping a Vietnam era vet as they exit the battlefield. Local vets groups were instrumental in this project.

Fireman's Park

This park is conveniently located at the intersection of highway 2 and Mahoney Road just behind, or just southeast of the Venture Inn, Libby’s Boutique Inn. In fact, many folks that stay at the Venture find it very convenient, as the park is just across a quiet side street. The park has a covered picnic and bar-b-que area, a small water park for the kids and some replica fire engine rides and other "jungle gym" features. This lovely park also contains a spacious area to walk your pets when they join you here for a little rest and relaxation. There is a small campground there, and each site has a picnic table.

Lincoln Country Shooting Complex

    It’s a nice drive out passing a great view of the Cabinet Mountains as you turn in to the Lincoln County Shooting Complex at 4611 Farm To Market Road. This facility is appropriately named as it offers something for everybody. Sounds of heavy rifles, small arms, pistols and shotguns crack as the range shows it’s diversity. The large archery target area gets use by Libby Archery Club and others and is quite the setup. Targets range in size and distance and it is setup for competition shooting also.

Movies Filmed In The Kootenai Country

Filmmaking in Montana began with a little known 1897 film promoting travel entitled, "Tourist Train Leaving Livingston," and has continued as recently as 2015 with the filming of  the Oscar winning movie “The Revenant,” near Libby, Montana. Movie makers flock here to include and portray some of the most magnificent scenery in the world while shooting in Big Sky Country.  The breath taking beauty of the American West is shared with the planet as an example of the independence, rugged individualism through their craft.
